How Hub Differ from Switch

In computer networks devices that perform their function within the network are switches and hubs. Hub is a broadcast device and does not perform an intelligent function. Hub receives a packet from a device in the network and broadcast that packet all over the network.

All devices connected to the hub receive that message and process the message. Concern device continue with further processing and other devices discard the packet. This makes the network and the devices with in the network mostly busy. Hub is unaware of the identity of devices connected to its ports.

Whereas switch is an intelligent device compare to hub. Like hub switch only broadcast when it turn on or new devices connected to its ports. Switch is an intelligent device it keeps the MAC address information of the devices in its MAC table. In MAC table switch keep the MAC address entry with respect to the port this device is connected. When switch receives a packet from a device with in the network, switch process the packet, read the MAC address of the destination device. Check in its MAC table about the port number with which that MAC address is connected and transfer the packet toward the device.

Switch and hub are used to connect the devices with in the network to connect two different networks router is required. If you have short budget then in the market there are many companies offering sell used Cisco routers and switches. Cisco is best choice for the network whether it is new device or some refurbished Cisco routers.
